Spring Term!

Year 3 – Roman Week!

In Year 3, we have been learning about the topic Romans - we have been learning about the countries that they invaded and succeeded with! As well as that, we have been doing Roman Numerals such as I=1 V=5 X=10 L=50 C=100 D=500 M=1000! In Literacy, we have been learning and labelling Boudicca. We are getting really excited, as on Thursday we are going on a school trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace.

Year 4

On Monday, we looked at the life of king Henry VIII’s painter, Hans Holbein {the younger}. Tuesday, we made a dance and drama to a book called The Tunnel by Anthony Browne – this is our author for book week. Wednesday was Art and we sketched a forest from The Tunnel.

Lately, in Year Four, we have been learning about the Black Death (but it is well-known as the Plague). Whilst we were writing a setting description about it, our goal was to use gruesome sentence starters, such as: As the foul stench travelled from room to room… Another sentence starter could be: Putrid and atrocious…

Year 6

During P.E., we had two new topics – rugby and teamwork. During rugby we worked on many different skills such as positioning, spotting gaps, being aware of all players at all times and keeping control of our speed. We talked about it and then put it into games of bulldog. We started by playing the simple bulldog with the netball court but then we took it up a level and put on the tag-rugby belts and tags. It was great fun and we learnt a lot.

Playing a team game in PE!

Decoupage was extremely popular in the Victorian times, so we were able to decoupage a plate in Art, using images that represented us. Decoupage is where you have lots of cut out images, overlap them and glue them down to cover a vase or some sort of item.

This week, as it is book week, Year Six are looking at the author, J.K Rowling and, more specifically, Harry Potter! We watched the section of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone where Harry and Hagrid enter Diagon Alley.
